Kyle - Special Person of the Week!

Last week Kyle was the Special Person of the Week in his Kindergarten classroom. It's such a fun week for the kids because when it's their week, they get to share pictures of themselves growing up, help with special classroom jobs, and they are celebrated by their classmates. On the last day of his special week we got to visit his classroom to share special stories about him and read his favorite book Froggy Plays T-Ball. He was so excited to have us there, and big brother Hayden got to join in on the fun! The kids end the celebration by singing a sweet song to the Special Person.

Helping with the calendar. (Sorry it's a little dark!)

Leading the morning activities!

Ready to dance and sing with a little help from big brother Hayden!

Proud Family! We were glad Granny could join us!

Below is the video of the class singing their praise song.

We had a great time spending the morning celebrating our favorite 5 year old! Really, he'll be six in just a few days! It's hard to believe! We love you, Kyle!

Have a great day!

6 Month Pictures (a little late!)

I had every intention of having Allie's 6 month pictures made a couple of months ago - when she was actually 6 months old! But, of course time, the holidays and strep got the better of us these past couple of months. Anyway, we finally got some cute pictures of her this week. She refused to smile for most of them, but did give us her sweet little grins for a few. Enjoy!

Sweet girl!

How I would have LOVED to get her smiling here!

There she is!

My Little Aunt Jemima! This one makes me laugh!

The boys are enjoying a snow day off from school today. Unfortunately, there isn't enough snow to do any serious playing in! Oh well, we've made hot chocolate and sugar cookies...I think they'll survive!

Have a great day!

Thunder Cake

Hayden's second grade class has been studying about weather for the last couple of weeks. His teacher read Thunder Cake by Patricia Polacco to them. It's about a little girl who is afraid of storms. As a storm approaches, her grandmother distracts her by making Thunder Cake using ingredients from their farm. They have to hurry to make the cake before the storm arrives, or it won't be a true Thunder Cake. At the end of the book is a recipe for the cake, which is unusal because it includes pureed tomatoes. His teacher asked a few moms to make this cake, so the kids could try it out. So...guess what we did once the boys got home from school on Thursday!

This really is a great book. I've got it somewhere buried in the attic with my teaching materials.

The finished product! We made 4 single layer cakes...3 for school and 1 for us!

My little taste-testers!
The boys loved it! They said you couldn't even taste the tomatoes! We don't do as much baking around here as we probably should, but this was fun to do with my little assistant Hayden!
Have a great day!

First Teeth

Allie wanted to show you her first two teeth! She was proud to show them off! She got her first one the week after Thanksgiving and the second one came about a week later. No wonder she kept waking up several times a night! She is now a happy girl!

Have a great day!

Snow Day

This is what we woke up to on Monday morning! We all were excited to have an extra day off of school! After a fun-filled day of playing in the snow and several cups of hot chocolate, the boys crashed into their beds that night!

Our very own Winter Wonderland!
Hayden and Kyle - hard at work!
Their pride and joy!
